Chapel Cottage, Leonard Stanley

I have just spent 4 relaxing nights in ‘Chapel Cottage’ in Leonard Stanley (near Stroud), Gloucestershire.

You are never sure when you book the accommodation online what it will really be like.  It should be like the pictures, but sometimes they can tell a slightly different story.

The cottage was booked HERE through Welcome Cottages which was all very simple and straight forward.

I enclose the list of features and description:

Chapel cottage adjoins Chapel House, the owners beautiful 17th century, Grade II listed Cotswold home. Sensitively restored with its oak beams, oak flooring and galleried double bedroom with sloping ceilings, the cottage lies back from a quiet road in the picturesque village of Leonard Stanley. This is an ideal base for a relaxing holiday. For those seeking greater activity there is an abundance of choice with the Cotswold Way running by the village as well as the many local cycle paths and golf courses close by. Shops 1 mile, pub 50 yards.

Ground floor: Living room with double sofa bed/dining room/kitchen. Beams and wooden floors throughout. Bathroom with shower over roll-top bath and toilet. First floor: Galleried area with double bed.

Gas CH, gas, elec, bed linen and towels inc. T/cot on request. H/chair. DVD and small library. CD. Gas hob. Elec oven. M/wave. W/machine. Freezer. Small enclosed front garden and furniture. Shared lawn area. BBQ. Parking (2 cars). No smoking.

So did it live up to the online depiction?!

In short, YES.

As per the instructions, we called ahead a few days early to arrange arrival time.  Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, who gave a brief tour, explanation and was done and gone within a few minutes.

We were provided with a bottle of white wine, tea, coffee, sugar and milk sachets to help settle in.

2013-06-21 08.41.13The accommodation has all that we needed including a pretty good specification kitchen, with fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, oven, gas hob with 4 rings, extractor hood, 1.5 sink/drainer, bin, tea towels, oven gloves, cutlery, china etc.  There was even an iron and accompanying board, radio and hair dryer in the bedroom.

There was a 6 seat dining table, 2/3 seat sofa (that folded out as a bed) as well as 2 lounger chairs.

The lounger had a wall mounted fire, small HD TV with Blu-ray DVD player (nice bonus) as well as a bookcase with some books, DVDs and a couple of games.  There was even lots of local information on things to do along with a welcome information pack and visitors book.

The bathroom was a good size with towels provided and the bedroom was nicely equipped on the 1st floor.

Outside there was an enclosed patio with 2 seat table and chairs and small BBQ.

It had character with modern comforts.

Dogs are welcome too! Our 1 year old Labrador loved it.

The owners kept their distance despite the cottage being attached.

Leonard Stanley itself is small and not a lot going on but all the main attractions are within a short drive and there are some great walks close by on the Cotswold Way.  Woodchester park (5 minutes drive away was excellent).

Stonehouse another local town has more shops and restaurants if you do want to eat out or get access to a big supermarket.

There isn’t a great deal more that I can say about this place, other than it is what the online descriptions say.

It was a pleasant 4 days and if you are considering this as a location then you could do a lot worse.
